The Global Call to Action Against Poverty has called for a month of action between 16 September 2006 and 17 October 2006. The global theme for the month is “Stand Up Against Poverty” and during the month, there will be events and actions taking place around the globe but there are also two specific global moments of action, one of which is the “STAND UP” campaign.
On 15 & 16 October 2006, we will see a global attempt to set a Guinness World Record for most people ever to “STAND UP” against poverty in a 24 hour period. Between 11am on Sunday 15 October and 11am on Monday 16 October, a minimum of 10 000 people must “STAND UP” in support of poverty eradication as well as the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The Millennium Campaign, which works with a large number of national and local partners including people’s organizations, faith groups, trade unions and local authorities, is organising a number of events across the world to mobilise partners and the general public to take part in the “STAND UP” campaign. CUUNA will also be participating in this event and we therefore need your strong support in order to set this record and to make this an event the world leaders take notice of! Watch this space as we post information on our events!
