We hope you are well and looking forward to the end of term! With it, of course, comes all the one-month-early Cambridge Christmas festivities – most of which will include good amounts of booze, party crackers and several mince pies and Christmas puddings to say the least! But with such festivities we often forget that the global distribution of wealth today is still terribly unequal and about half of the world’s population lives on less than $2 per day.

And so we present you with our last CUUNA social event of this term which will be a night to remember, the Christmas Poverty Dinner:

Date: Tuesday 28th November 2006
Time: 7pm

Venue: BA Room, Trinity College (above College Bar)
Price: £4 (members), £5 (non-members)

The aim of the dinner is to reflect simply the uneven global distribution of income in which the richest 20% of the population hold 75% of the world income while 80% of humanity gets just the remainder 25% (Human Development Report 2005).

So, there will be a 20% chance of having a “rich”, wonderful and delicious Christmas dinner, and an 80% chance of having a “poor” blander Christmas dinner.

But, do not despair! In the spirit of Christmas, everyone will be having a fabulous dessert, and it will be a great chance to get together and socialise. We do encourage you to bring your own wine, especially to wash down the main course if you happen to be in the less fortunate meal bracket! You will be allocated to a group at random on the night, and you will be pleased to hear that the committee members will all receive a poor meal, which improves your chances!

Please email our Social Secretary (Yew Hong) at socials@cuuna.org with the following information:
